Car Time at Orinda Motors is a local cable television that show airs on KCRT TV Cable Channel 28. Students from the Miramonte High School Class of 2010 paid us a visit for an introduction to car maintenance and operation. John Vanek and Vince Poehnelt hosted the show. Orinda Motor’s ASE Master Tech Greg Sisk did some under hood demos. Topics discussed included the importance of understanding the maintenance required for whatever vehicle you may be driving. How to access the vehicle’s owners manual so one can know how to properly use and maintain the vehicle. How important it to know simple things like how to use the emergency flashers and the location of the spare tire. Other topics included how to prepare for a road trip. “It is important that these young drivers have a plan on what to do if their car breaks down or how to prepare a car for harsher conditions,” says Vanek. Greg showed the students what the warning lights and gauges are all about. He also showed them some simple maintenance items like how to check your engine oil, basic fluids and tire pressures. Vanek offers classes for small groups that want to become more educated about cars.
