How to Sanitize Your Vehicle

In the wake of COVID-19, cleaning our vehicles is incredibly important. It is easy to remember to sanitize our homes and even hands, but it is quite easy to forget about our cars. We have the potential to track germs and debris into our vehicle, and we need to make sure we take the proper steps to keep our cars clean and sanitized.

Don't worry, the team at Orinda Motors is here to help. We are here to discuss the do's and don'ts of proper automotive interior cleaning and disinfecting. Before we begin, it is critical to recognize that our car, truck, or SUV has several points that we frequently come into contact with. Regardless of the material these high-contact areas are in, the coronavirus can potentially live on these surfaces for days. We will focus our attention on the regions we come into contact with most frequently, also known as "touchpoints."

Begin by vacuuming. We recommend starting by breaking out the vacuum and getting rid of all the pesky crumbs and debris that may have accumulated over the past few months. Bleach wipes and hand sanitizer can damage some materials in your vehicle, but if you have any car care products, we recommend using these products at this step. This way, you can remove any dust, dirt, or debris.

Next, make sure to sanitize all the touchpoints thoroughly. You can use soap and water to clean your vehicle's touchpoints, which include the radio, steering wheel, gear shift, door handles, or anything else you can think of. Cleaning agents can often be harmful to your vehicle's interior, but soap and water are less mild. You might want to think about using a microfiber towel, but your typical rag or washcloth will do, as long as you soak the cloth entirely and wring out any excess water before starting again. If you don't wring out the material thoroughly, you may run into the risk of moisture buildup.

Make sure to take the time to think of any regions in your vehicle that you or your family touch excessively, including your interior truck handles and cupholders. After you clean your vehicle, we imagine you will feel a wave of relief, knowing your vehicle is properly cleaned and ready to go!
